Happy Father’s Day

Father’s Day has evolved dramatically over the past six decades. At least for me, it has. How about with you? It started out being a special day to honor my dad…with something I made, a card, a tie, a shirt, the latest cool tool or maybe a gift card from one of the “Do-it-yourself” mega stores. Somewhere along the way it occurred to me that something powerful was happening. It’s a process of replication. My children were repeating my behaviors. And now, some years later, I’m watching my grandchildren do the same thing.

Our best traditions are powerful in purpose. What, at times, seems like a routine challenge to be creative every June is really a special time to reflect with gratitude. We have Fathers, whether they are biological, step, adoptive, grand, or they simply act like our father. The meaning of Father is steadfast love, sacrifice, unbreakable connection and a willingness to give their best to their children. The promise of a father. That’s the principle thing that is replicated every June and each day in between. Our best traditions have power in purpose and there is great value in celebrating and replicating them. Happy Father’s Day, Dad! I’m your grateful son.

  1. Interesting post. This was a strange fathers day for me because it’s the first one in memory where I didn’t get to go see my dad.

One of my Aunts on my husbands side posted a photo on facebook of her father who died earlier this year. Seeing that really reminded me to appreciate my own father.

I am very blessed to have your son in my life. You’ve done a terrific job raising him. I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to handling stress and anxiety in my everyday encounters. Your teachings resonate within him, and his words of advice and encouragement have helped me tremendously. Happy Father’s Day to you, you’ve got a remarkable, caring, and compassionate son.

Happy Father’s Day Dad! I love you more than I will ever be able to express. . . .

Memory propels us to higher levels of responsibility. Thank God for the those that are a cloud of witnesses. We remember and try to pass on the gift we have been given in our fathers and mothers.
